Brain Health and Focus
HumanBlu supports brain health and focus with IQity®, a personalized brain evaluation and training program that measures what your brain needs and builds a plan to strengthen it, and with NAD+ and Niagen IV therapy for cellular energy and repair.
What affects brain health over a lifetime?
In 2024 the Lancet Commission on dementia found fourteen risk factors with enough evidence behind them, and estimated that addressing all of them could, in theory, prevent or delay nearly half of dementia cases worldwide. They are:
- Less education, head injury and physical inactivity
- Smoking, drinking too much alcohol and air pollution
- High blood pressure, high LDL cholesterol, diabetes and obesity
- Hearing loss and untreated vision loss
- Depression and infrequent social contact
What helps keep the brain sharp?
- Stay active: physical activity is important to keeping your heart, body and brain healthy.
- Keep blood pressure in check: high blood pressure can damage blood vessels and limit blood flow to the brain.
- Look after your hearing: even mild hearing loss has been associated with a higher chance of developing dementia.
- Stay connected: social isolation or loneliness in older adults is associated with a 50% higher risk of dementia.
- Sleep enough: short sleep makes it harder to learn, focus, make decisions and remember things.
Can the brain keep changing as you get older?
Yes. Throughout life the brain adjusts the strength of the connections between its nerve cells in response to experience, an ability called neuroplasticity. New skills can be learned at any age, though progress may be somewhat slower later in life.
Which memory changes are normal, and which are worth checking?
Some slips are typical with age, such as an occasional error with the household bills, or getting confused about the day of the week but working it out later. Trouble following a familiar recipe or keeping track of monthly bills is different, and worth an appointment with your doctor. Dementia is not a normal part of aging, and some memory problems have treatable causes.
What is NAD+?
NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a coenzyme in the body’s cells, central to how they turn food into energy and used in repairing DNA. Studies suggest NAD+ levels are lower in older people, though not in every tissue, and researchers are studying whether raising them supports health with age.
