Learn MoreWhat is healthspan?
Lifespan is how long you live; healthspan is how many of those years you live in good health. The National Institute on Aging describes the aim of research on aging as increasing the years of healthy life, the healthspan, rather than simply lifespan.
What causes most deaths in the US?
Chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes are the leading causes of death and disability in the United States, and three in four American adults have at least one chronic condition. Many are driven by a short list of risk behaviors: smoking, poor nutrition, physical inactivity and excessive alcohol use. In 2024, heart disease and cancer were again the two leading causes of death.
Which everyday measures matter most for heart health?
The American Heart Association’s Life’s Essential 8 are four health behaviors and four health factors:
- Eat better
- Be more active
- Quit tobacco
- Get healthy sleep
- Manage weight
- Control cholesterol
- Manage blood sugar
- Manage blood pressure
Which screenings are recommended for adults?
The US Preventive Services Task Force recommends, among others:
- Blood pressure screening for adults 18 and older
- Screening for prediabetes and type 2 diabetes for adults aged 35 to 70 who have overweight or obesity
- Colorectal cancer screening for adults aged 45 to 75
- A mammogram every other year for women aged 40 to 74
- Cervical cancer screening for women aged 21 to 65
- Hepatitis C screening for adults aged 18 to 79
- Lung cancer screening for adults aged 50 to 80 with a 20 pack-year smoking history who smoke now or quit within the past 15 years
What does it mean that HumanBlu is Blue Zones Approved?
HumanBlu is a Blue Zones Approved regenerative wellness clinic. Blue Zones Project is a research-backed framework inspired by the world’s longest-lived communities, and our policies, environment, and daily practices are designed so better choices happen by default. Integrated care means medicine, strength, and skin aligned toward one goal: more good years.
What do the world’s longest-lived communities have in common?
The original Blue Zones research identified five places with the highest share of people living to 100: Loma Linda in California, Nicoya in Costa Rica, Sardinia in Italy, Ikaria in Greece and Okinawa in Japan. It found nine habits they share, among them:
- Moving naturally through the day
- A sense of purpose
- Routines that shed stress
- Stopping eating when 80 percent full
- A mostly plant-based diet
- Belonging to a faith-based community
- Putting family first
- Social circles that support healthy habits
